Tribute to Layton

Friday I traveled to Las Vegas to visit my friend Mark. We've ridden and raced together for years, but Friday would be different. Much different.
Roll the tape back to early September, Mark and another Kevin just finished riding in Jean, Nevada. His wife called to say she was taking their son Layton, age seventeen, to the doctor's, as he had a bloody nose that wouldn't stop.
The bloody nose, after much examination, became leukemia. Fast forward the tape to Friday, and we're at Layton's memorial service.
There doesn't seem to be a good way to die, especially at age seventeen. But this happened so fast, it rocked everyone's world. It's hard to get your brain cells around a kid, living normally, then in a few weeks it's over. Sometimes life seems much more than unfair.
I told Mark I loved him and would continue to pray for his family, his wife Scarlett, Layton's older sister Shelby, twin sister Sierra, and younger sisters Lindsay and Madison. You still feel impotent to help.
Hug your kids, your siblings, your  parents, your friends.

So sorry to hear the sad news. I'm praying for Layton's family.

I needed this reminder to live each day as if it was the last opportunity I have to express love and affection to friends and family... because it very well could be!

So sorry to hear the sad news. Prayers going up and out for family and friends.
As friends we need to check in often with our families after they lose someone....this week, next week, next month, and the month after that and next year etc...and remember their child, talk about his life and the touching things. People are often afraid to bring up the name and memories...but the family will treasure it.
