50 States, Day 345

Gallup to Holbrook, 101 Miles

"The thing is, we have to let go of all blame, all attacking, all judging, to free our inner selves to attract what we say we want.  Until we do, we are hamsters in a cage chasing our own tails and wondering why we aren't getting the results we seek."
~Joe Vitale

We stopped at Holbrook at noon for fuel. The wind howled, blowing dirt into our eyes and mouth.
"You want to stop here?"
QG didn't hesitate. "Yes."

The ride was a white knuckle affair, the wind blowing from left to right, the gusts shoving us toward the shoulder. The big rigs pushed us sideways too, but when they passed us they left us in a wake of turbulence. I had already slowed to a safer speed, but the deal breaker for me was the trailer wiggling like a fish tail behind us.

A huge tumbleweed shot across the pavement and a car hit it causing it to disintegrate, almost evaporate. And dust blew sideways, the wind causing a motorhome that passed us to list to the right. Good day to find a motel and sit tight.

We sat tight, and the wind kept up it's assault all day, then by evening the temperature dropped and the rain fell. Jeez! We were sweating the weather in Oklahoma and Missouri, not Arizona. Good grief.

And now, happy to be off the road, Quilter Girl!

It was noon when we stopped and I was as tired as if we had ridden all day.  The wind was very intense and it is tiring to keep your head up.  There were times of calm, but the wind was getting stronger.  I was very glad to stop!  The wind got worse as the afternoon wore on.

We had a nice dinner at Denny's because it is right next door.  I was pleasantly surprised as the food and the service were very good.  Our server was really great.

So we are warm and dry and watching the Final Four and Dancing with the Stars.  I am a happy non-camper.

QG

We met so many wonderful people today, Renee, Clare, the two ladies from Minnesota, and a few others too. Plus we experienced superb service from- brace yourself- Motel 6 and Denny's. Yep. The clerk at 6 got us checked in in a matter of minutes, and helped me with printing and faxing. And the lady at Denny's did a marvelous job at dinner, making every move work and ensuring that every customer got great treatment. A tip of the face shield to both of them.

If you can, tune into James Kelly's 'Aspects of Writing' show tomorrow at 2 PM. You can listen online at www.KLAV1230AM.com

Your comments about the wind reminded me of this Old Irish Blessing. As you can see, I've done a bit of editing...

May the road rise up to meet you, unless you're on a motorcycle.
May the wind always be at your back; not at your front or side, escpecially if you're on a motorcycle.
May the sun shine warm upon your faceshield, and rains fall soft upon your windshield; no rain at all would be better.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you, your motorcycle and trailer in the palm of His hand.
AMEN
