50 States, Day 147

50 States, Day 147  San Diego, California

"You want to become aware of your thoughts, you want to choose your thoughts carefully and you want to have fun with this, because you are the masterpiece of your own life.  You are the Michelangelo of your own life.  The David that you are sculpting is you.  You do it with your thoughts."
~Joe Vitale

San Diego, land of sun, surf and air that you drink. The humidity makes railings rust, car windshields foggy in warm weather, and people sweat. While the rest of the country enters into autumn with cool nights and falling leaves, SD continues with summer-like weather, and a great day for an outdoor party.  I considered wearing my deputy badge today, but the hard reality of life hit me like a cold Pacific wave. I'm not a deputy any more. Sigh. Just have to live with the memory. Because I whined about the coed shower for daughter Amy, QG passed it on, so the name changed to a 'baby barbecue.' Hmm. That didn't sound too good either. Taking a pass on gratuitous jokes here. We'll see if Mel Nason can exercise some self control too.

Amy and Issouf are expecting twins, Amy is as big as a house and Issouf-in an amazing act of confidence-isn't worried a bit about being a double daddy. His attitude, "Why worry?" could be a lesson for all of us. Certainly for me, anyway.
Grandma Sue and Leonard (relatives of friends) sponsored the party and made their incredibly small yard, with efficient use of space for a pool, deck, patios, and barbecue island-available. Leonard cooked on the grill, thick hamburgers and hot dogs. Add some chips, fresh fruit (of course, we're in Cally), and a pasta salad. Not to mention drinks to assuage the heat.

Amy waddled around. Sorry, but she's huge, being due in around four weeks. But the painful thing to observe was her swollen feet, the first alarm saying it's time to take it easy. Contractions are the second warning, and make me a bit nervous. Not interested in delivering the grandbabies!

In a clever method of manipulating the guests, if anyone brought diapers, their name was placed in a raffle to win a prize. So they walked away from the bash with a ton of diapers. The twins should be set for at least ten or fifteen minutes.
Between Nick's party and Amy's, it's great to be family. Births, weddings and-sadly, funerals-make for excellent excuses to get together and enjoy one another's company and get reacquainted.

Stay tuned tomorrow for our weekly Çhurch Surch. See you then.

Whhaaaat? You want ME to exercise self-control regarding the "baby barbecue"? Well, I just did... and it was the most exercise I've gotten all week!

I can feel the tension from here... So much sarcasm and double meanings... All bottled up inside... Careful or you'll have a stroke!
