50 States, Day 137

Day 137, Albany to Battlesboro, VT.  140 Miles

"Three words I can sum up what I've learned about life: It goes on."
~Robert Frost

140 miles. And 60 of them were riding around Albany, lost, or missed that one exit by a hundred feet, stuck on a turnpike and must pay the price of a fifteen-mile turn around. And pay the price of forty-five cents.

First, today we took care of business. Next week I attend my nephew's wedding in San Diego, and a big surprise about that later. I needed to find a suit, so off to the Men's Wearhouse to rent one. They don't rent them. Not going in a tux. Looking for plan B, or C.

We needed to take care of even more business. The iPad took a fall and cracked the screen. Off to the Apple Store, where the friendly geek replaced the little gizmo in nothing flat. Well, an hour. But the good Apple news is it fired up and contained all my information, thanks to the Cloud. How it does that, I don't understand, particularly as it is a clear day.

We got on our bike and rode... Right through downtown, attempting to leave town. By the time we got to rural roads we were lucky not to have bitten each others' heads off.

Finally, winding roads, trees, big viewpoints and sun. A wonderful day for a ride. Sweeping turns and steep ups and downs were a treat, and Vermont looks to be naturally fun.

We found a (PP!) KOA and settled down, and I fired up the iPad to blog and...
Huh?
No Internet, no memory of photos, no apps, no emails.
Oh my gosh. And no Apple store for three more states.
First denial, then horror, then making deals with God, finally settling down to depression. Slept on it and tried calling Apple. Yes, telephones work in Vermont. Worked with the friendly geek on the phone. Forty-five minutes later he declares it to be a (PP!) Verizon issue. I called Verizon and passed through the voice mail hell gates of recordings and finally talk to the friendly geek who helps reboot the Mifi and voila! We are back.
I hugged my iPad while looking reproachfully at the little Hotspot.
And Quilter Girl reminded me that God answered our prayers.
I love my little iPad.
It's actually tomorrow- okay it's today, but the day after yesterday, not the posted day, but oh, forget it.
Now if I can just get the remote keyboard to work. So far I've converted it to British and it won't talk to the iPad. I suppose if it did, when I typed 'hood' it would write bonnet', and if I wrote 'pants' it would just blush.
Off to tour more of beautiful Vermont and perhaps figure out how syrup is made from icky sap. Hopefully we'll do better than we did 'learning' how fiber optics worked.

Glad it was only the screen that broke, and not the Cloud. I hear broken Clouds can lead to very stormy weather between one and one's spouse...

With as much grief As I've had with this iPad, it's a wonder the screen wasn't broken with a motorcycle tire track across it.

Like posting something twice because the stupid thing is thinking... And thinking... Ad nauseum...
