50 States Day 133

50 States, Day 133. Canandaigua to Watkins Glen, NY. 66 Miles
"I shall pass through this life but once. Any good therefore that I can do, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it. For I shall never pass this way again."
~Etienne de Grellet

Worst KOA night ever as some idiots got drunk and made a lot of noise, until 2:00 a.m. That campground will get a poor review!
We woke to the tent flapping; the wind had picked up, a sure sign of a storm coming. I checked the weather and by 10:30 we could expect wind, rain, lightning and perhaps hailstones. We gotta go!
Loading up, we packed pretty quickly (after 100 plus packs and unpacks, you get pretty good at it.) As I climbed aboard, QG sighed and said, "We should have looked into a cabin here." Well, Dur! We were loaded so off we went, as the rain commenced. Then the wind. And more rain. Then less. We rolled into Watkins Glen and dithered. Should we get a motel? With a Vintage car race this weekend, were any available? What about a KOA cabin? We decided to try the KOA cabin.
Climbing the hill, the skies opened and the price of the cabin became less important per gallon. Attempting not too appear too desperate, we asked about available cabins, and certainly, they could hook us up.
Still raining, but I want lightning, basketball size hail, downed trees and power outages. Gives us more credibility for sitting out the Adventure. Oh well. We're catching up on reading, writing, phone calls and sleep.
And now... The Week in Review!

MUTTERINGS, MUSINGS, RANTS AND RAVES
We had an interesting conversation with a local and he excoriated the State of New York for the way they mismanaged Niagara Falls. Then he pointed out how much better the Canadian side of the falls is managed, and what do you know? Much better, and the housing isn't run down either.
These KOAs fight for user friendliness. Hanging baskets, indoor pools, escorts to the sites and trash pickups are just a few examples of how they try to outshine the others.
Interesting how restaurant services suffer when they are slammed, or super slow. I understand slammed, but people must slip into a coma during slow.
I've never been very interested in history until this trip. Now I find it fascinating and captivating.
I have a feeling summer is over. The next three months should be interesting.
Many of these Eastern states are tiny! We're going to combine Vermont and New Hampshire together and zig zag back and forth. We'll see how tree sap becomes maple syrup.

THE STUPID DRIVER OF THE WEEK
You would think the bike that pulled in front of me in the rain would win, but the trucker beat him hands down. Yes, you. Sixty miles an hour and less than a car length from the car in front of you? I respect truckers because they live on the road and have to put up with some stupid drivers. But that is inexcusable. You're endangering many peoples' lives. Shame on you. Get out of the truck and ride a scooter for two weeks.
THE NUMBERS
675,000.Gallons per second, Horseshoe Falls. That's a pile of liquid.
167. Feet, the Falls
45.5 million Gallons a minute fall over all of Niagara Falls.
Half to 3/4. Of the water is diverted through hydroelectric power plants.
78.62. Dollars, per night for a KOA cabin. Pricey, I think.
16. Bucks for an Erie Canal Boat Tour, a good value, I think.
16. People who've gone over Niagara Falls
9. Successfully
15. Pounds of sunflower seeds I've eaten. Approximately.
Thanks for following. A few more days in New York, then off to Vermont. Stay tuned for 'Church Surch' tomorrow. Looks like Episcopalians. And who knows? I may go to the Watkins Glen racetrack for the Vintage Racing.

15 pounds of sunflower seeds, huh? That's approx. 1.8 ounces per day. Were they in the shell or are you a "seeder" who does the shelling yourself? Just wondering. You know... for the shell of it!

No, salted in the shell. Filthy habit too, but beats smoking!

I hope you don't sneeze into your face shield while "seeding"... THAT could be messy!

Stop making fun of my addiction. I have no therapist on this trip. Now I'm unhappy, where are the sunflower seeds? And I'm NOT addicted! I never eat them before nine am.
