50 States- Just Roll On... Right!

‘Easy Rider,’ that worthless movie, depicted two guys riding around the country, no responsibilities, no schedules, and no commitments. Somehow everyone (including me, to a degree) subconsciously believes the same. Just fire up that bike and go. Bob Seger glamorized it as well, with his song, “Roll Me Away:”
“Took a look down a westbound road,
Right away I made my choice
Headed out to my big two-wheeler,
I was tired of my own voice
Took a bead on the northern plains
And just rolled that power on.”
Then he meets a girl, tells her what he’s doing, and she stops what she’s doing and hops on too. Then she misses home, he drops her off and goes on alone, ‘roll me away’ and so on.
You suppose he just dropped her off, or took her home? Sounded like he just pulled over and took off.
Nice, real nice. I can see doing that with Quilter Girl, sure.
The reality is that today I boxed up stuff to move, threw away junk, tossed some stuff in the Salvation Army bag and negotiated with movers. And what did Quilter girl do?
Yes she did. She has a lot of quilting to finish before we go, so she worked until five and went to bed with a sore throat and fever.
My great friend Lars came over to help and we pulled nails and patched holes.
I checked on the condition of the bike for the secret cool thing that I wanted to announce Friday, yesterday and today. Maybe tomorrow. I’m not trying to build suspense, I’m trying to get them to finish the bike!
Finally I arranged shipping for the Old Gold Wing. Now I have to remove the windshield.
‘Roll, roll me away,
I'm gonna roll me away tonight
Gotta keep rollin, gotta keep ridin',
Keep searchin' till I find what's right.’
Yeah, right.
It’s still worth it, oh yeah.
But you don’t just roll away, oh no.
I know, this is supposed to be a blog about motorcycle touring.
We will get there!
If you look at the first photo, 'Captain America' is Peter Fonda with Jack Nicholson on the back. The far rider is the late Dennis Hopper.
