50 States, Day 292

  Jacksonville laying low, 48 miles

“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of our life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”
~Chris McCandless

Rain, thunder, lightning and a good day to sit tight. Today was grey and sometimes rainy, a good day to sit this one out. QG spent the day quilting and I worked on '50 States in 50 Weeks,' the book. Yes, since we're well into the trip, I can write (most of it) about the Adventure.

Today I scheduled an appointment at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store. Which raises the question: who is the genius? It had better be them! Perhaps their genius will make me one. Now THAT would be a miracle. The problem was the iPad contained too much data and couldn't save it to the iCloud. After I deleted 8,000 photos (Honest. Eight thousand!), it still said it couldn't save; we had too much data. The problem (more than one) was it didn't KNOW there was less data to save until it saved it, so it wouldn't save it and it continued not to know. Confused? Good. We shut off the photo storage, started it again and voila! It knew it had room.

The other problem was the iPad saved pictures in as many as four places. Drives me crazy. And in a few instances, certain photos may have been in six spots. We're learning, and getting better. A huge tip of the face shield to Chris, who took the time and got it fixed-for now. The original problem remains, as iPad is a notebook, not a laptop or PC. You're supposed to be able to sync with a computer to use it properly. Sort of like a tender as opposed to a cruise ship. Oops. My apologies to Carnival. Anyway, leave it to me to use a product improperly.

And now, fresh from sewing up a storm, Quilter Girl!

I got Ethel out and we had some fun.  I have four rows done on the braid quilt, out of twelve and three more in various stages.  That is good progress.  I cut the new fabric that I bought in St. Augustine so there are more pieces to choose from.  I can hardly wait to get a couple of rows sewed together so I can see how it will look when it goes together.  It feels good to see it coming together.

We walked to Cracker Barrel for lunch today before Kevin left for the Apple store.  It was a brisk walk to the other side of the freeway where we had a fine meal of turkey and dressing for Kevin and a chicken salad sandwich for me.  Gotta love that home cooking.

Tomorrow we head for Tallahassee. See you then! And happy Valentine’s Day.
I bought QG a Snickers bar. I know, I went a little crazy.

Great quote on the 15th!! You are both examples of trying new things-living a whole year on the road really exposes you to unique experiences. Now at 82, I love routine but travel once in a while keeps life from getting too stale.

MIL, glad you're still traveling. Enjoy the routine, but just don't get stuck in it!
