Church Surch, Week 10

Church Surch Week 10

We've used two scientific methods to choose a church; check for one on the

Internet, and happen to drive by one. Capital Christian Center, using clever

marketing, positioned their church along the road. Quilter Girl and I, using our clever sense of judgment, decided to try it.

CCC surprised us, as there were no indications it was Assembly of God. No

problem. Give it up for the AG folks, they can worship the Lord.  When we sang Chris Tomlin's 'Shout to the Lord' and yes, we did worship.

"Shout to the Lord all the earth let us sing,

Power and majesty praise to the King;

Mountains bow down and the seas will roar

At the sound of your name."

What a wonderful song, and we all entered into the presence of the Lord.

Pastor Dan and his wife sang a duet, and to be honest, they sounded like a

lounge act. I mean that in a good way. Perhaps I've lived in Las Vegas too long.

But they harmonized well.

The church is modern, with padded chairs and light blue carpet. The musicians, piano, two guitars and drums, accompanied us. Pastor Dan's kid played the drums.

If your calling is to pastor a church, your family is chained to your vision

too.

Dan preached, "Be an Eagle Christian" using Isaiah 40:31 as his text and

encouraged us to live like eagles, not buzzards. He started his sermon telling us of his vacation and roller coaster rides, then played a video of one, where the victims hang off each side, simulated flying. He pulled it off, it tied in just fine.

The people were friendly, as you know a high mark for my stringent requirements of a church. People engaged us from the moment we shut off the bike until we walked out the door, someone would strike up a conversation. No sneaking in and out of this church!

One change this week, my haircut, changed the relationship, as I didn't look

like a serial killer this week. So much for scientific study.

Violating our principles, we rode to Jamestown to visit Aunt Bette. Bette is

sweeter than forty acres of sugar beets. She married my uncle when he was 82

years old, and sent a shock wave through our family. Who is this intruder? Yet her sweet spirit and demeanor won all of us over. She spent the last years of her marriage to Uncle Tom nursing and caring for him at home until his death.

Bette, the incredible hostess, baked a cake, invited friends and relatives, and rolled out the red carpet for us. And in a first for us both on this trip and in our lives, we are staying the night in an assisted living facility. So far so good, but I don't want to make a habit of this-yet.

Tomorrow, the World's Largest Buffalo. Can't wait, can you?

Who's the young man in the back row next to Sherri? Nice haircut, and I'll bet your head stays cooler inside the helmet now, too!

A suggestion if you end up near Western MN:

Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant on the banks of Plum Creek in Walnut Grove, MN.

July 6-7, 13-14, 20-21, 2012

Performance 9:00 pm Tickets 888-859-3102

As you can see by the dates, they present this pageant only 3 weekends of the entire year. Judy and I went to Montana last year for my 40th HS Reunion, and worked the pageant into our schedule. It was one of the highlights of our vacation. The locals have been doing this pageant for 33 years and it is very professionally done. If you enjoyed watching Little House on the Prairie on TV, you will thoroughly enjoy this pageant.

Like many events, we won't be able to make it. Can't do it all!
